Port Anniversary
On 17 September 1854 Ischia inaugurated its Harbour thanks to the intuition of King Ferdinand II of Borbone. What was the ancient “Lago de Bagni” ‘’Bathing Lake’’ was transformed into a port to facilitate a more convenient landing place in order to reach the island and above all the Aragonese Castle.
The works began in July 1853 and many men from the Borbone prisons of the Aragonese Castle took part in the construction of the works. The inauguration of the port represents a crucial moment for the history and economic development of the island.
